Diovan & Valsartan
Belonging to the class of drugs called angiotensin II receptor antagonists also known as ARB's- angiotensin receptor blocker is the hypertension lowering drug called Diovan. The generic name of the drug is Valsartan. The drug is also administered to people who have suffered heart failure. Its main function is of dilating the blood vessels thus reducing strain on the heart. In the US, this drug is marketed by Novartis under the trade name Diovan and they have a patent on it till 2012.

A drug when it is first manufactured after years of research and huge costs incurred for its development enters the market after seeking FDA approval in the US. The parent company normally obtains a license to market it exclusively for the next 20 years. But after the expiry of such a period, a number of companies set out to manufacture the same drug, differing in appearance, structure, packaging etc but similar in absorption rates, effectiveness and above all at significantly cheaper rates. These are known as generic drugs and are affordable and accessible to one and all. However, seeking the guidance and supervision of a doctor before consuming any generic drug is recommended. These generic drugs are widely available both over the counter (for non-prescription medications) as well as through online pharmacies that requre a prescription. Generic Valsartan is marketed by various companies like Effroze, Torrent and Cipla at competitive prices.

How would you like it if you could get all your generic medications you need at the click of your finger? At Buck a Day Pharmacy, you can find generic Valsartan in strengths of 80 mg and 160 mg respectively.
