Generic for Remeron
The generic name for Remeron is Mirtazapine. Remeron forms part of a group of drugs called tetracyclic antidepressants (TeCA). Remeron is used in the treatment of depression. This medicine is also sometimes used as an antiemetic, a hypnotic and an appetite stimulant. This drug also is prescribed for the treatment of the symptoms associated with anxiety. Mitrazapine was originally manufactured by Organon International in the United States sometime in the 1990s and today it is used as an antidepressant all over the world.
Mirtazapine is the generic name of the drug while Remeron is the brand name. Both are the same, they have the same components, active ingredients, the same colors and other things which go into their making. Their dosage instructions are also the same, their indications and side effects if any are one and the same. They are only made to look different as per the order of the FDA. Generic drugs are cheaper because they are manufactured by pharmaceutical companies after the long term patent of the brand name drugs has expired. After the expiry of the patent, any company can bring out the version of this drug and it becomes a generic version of the drug. Generic drugs are becoming increasingly popular because they are cheaper and provide the same benefit.
