Indian medications being sold via another country

THE TRUTH ABOUT INDIAN MEDICATIONS

If you have purchased medications on the internet or via international mail order through a Canadian mail order pharmacy it is highly likely that you have either been offered Indian medications and/or you have purchased and used them int the past.

India is one of the largest exporters of medications in the world. It has among the lowest manufacturing cost and a very high standard of quality. This is why it has become the most preffered destination to buy pharmaceutical products.

Indian pharmaceutical companies sell products all over the world, in more than 120 countries. The highest quality products are made for the local market (where it is under strict supervision of Indian FDA) and for regulated markets like USA, European Union and Japan. The next category of market is south East Asia with countries like Thailan, Malaysia, Phillippines, Indonesia etc. Then there are category 3 markets in the African continent; Kenya, Uganda, Egypt, Tanazania, Zimbabwe, Nigeria etc. And finally there are category 4 markets like Afghanistan and Iraq.

In India and regulated markets like USA and EU the pharmaceutical company has a very tight control over the product. As it is made specifically for that market, the company ensures that they also control the sale of their product through their own subsidiaries and their own sales force in these countries.

In category 2 markets (in Asia) pharmaceutical companies have appointed marketing and distribution agents for selling their products locally. Here also to a large extent the pharmaceutical company controls product.
For category 3 and 4 markets the pharmaceutical company sells the product to a trader who then sells it to a buyer in one of these countries. This is where the problem occurs. These traders sell these products to short term thinking pharmacies around the world who then sell it to you, the US customer, via mail order.

You buy the product assuming that it is India product. That part is true. What is not true is that these products are not for sale in India. They are for sale in some other country, in many cases a 3rd world or an African nation. A part of these products are diverted to the filling center of a pharmacy in Asia, the Pacific Rim or the Carribean. Then these products are sold to you as India product. You need to understand that these products are made in India but are not for sale in India.

The other concern with these products is that no place of manufacturing is mentioned on the pack. This is very strange ALL products that are sold in India must mention where they are made along with the price at which they can be sold.
